This medication is given by injection into a muscle or infused into a vein over 1 hour, usually by a health care professional. It is usually given once a day for 2 to 4 months then reduced to 2 or 3 times a week depending on your condition and response to treatment, or use as directed by your doctor. Stop using capreomycin and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

  • changes in your hearing;
  • spinning sensation, problems with balance;

  • low potassium (confusion, uneven heart rate, extreme thirst, increased urination, leg discomfort, muscle weakness or limp feeling).

Less serious side effects may include:

  • mild skin rash;
  • fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms; or
  • pain, swelling, or a hard lump where the injection was given.
